3 out of 5 stars (Various visits, latest on 6/22/13)PAUL: The service here has improved a lot lately. People don't believe that Twisted Taco is good; but, now with improved service, I think you should give it one more try. The last three times we went, the service was good and food was excellent. On Saturday, I got the Big Jake Burrito - but, - NOT "twisted", which is when they put cheese sauce on top. It had EVERYTHING like...so...onions to beans to beef to lettuce and all that good stuff. The service was a lot faster...we got our food in like two seconds! The waiter came back on a regular basis to check on us. The service used to be horrific because it took like two hours to get our food and they would like never come back to check on us. One time my dad's food was even cold! Every time we go, there is hardly any people there because they must have said, "Uh..this place has bad service." - and then never tried to come back. So, they haven't seen that the service has gotten better. I think I think you should give it one more chance SAM: I like the TVs in the booth! Sometimes we watch baseball. I really like the food and I like the chicken quesadilla with rice and beans. You should ask them for a spoon and try to remind them because sometimes they forget.

FIVE OUT OF FIVE STARS (June 15th, 2013)Paul: We took my dad to Taverna Fiorentina for a Fathers Day dinner on Saturday night (instead of Sunday, so it wouldn’t be so crowded). The decor was very dark. It was cool because it had a bar and two dining rooms. They had wine bottles on the wall. The two rooms were separated by a curtain and steps. It was an open kitchen so you could see what different people were ordering when the waiters took it out. The only kids were Sam and me. We got two appetizers for our table. We got the eggplant parmesan and the caprese. (I love caprese!) The caprese was stacked like a tower. I said it was the “Leaning Tower of Caprese” because it slightly leaned. The mozzarella on the caprese was awesome! The eggplant came out super-hot, but it cooled down pretty quick. I loved it. I ordered the Gnocchi di Ricotta. It was very good! It had gnocchi, shrimp, zucchini, and cherry tomatoes. The zucchini was fresh and tasty. The shrimp was very big and tender. The gnocchi was light for a gnocchi, which is normally pretty heavy. I loved it! I would recommend getting it; although, there are many other great options on the menu. (And don’t forget to look at the specials, because they are very tasty. My dad got the special lamb and said it was awesome.) The server’s name was “Joe”, which is my dad’s name! He gave really good recommendations. He told my dad a really good wine to get with his lamb. There was a bar code on the wine bottle and he let my dad scan it with his iPhone. It told him where he could buy it in the future. He came back on a regular basis to check on us and see if we were OK. Joe was great. I almost forgot about dessert. Me, Sam, and mom got the chocolate mousse. It was creamy and very thick. I liked it. It was very good. I recommend this restaurant. Sam: I really liked my spaghetti and meatballs. I almost had my whole thing but I didn’t because it was too much. I wanted to have it for leftovers because it was really good and I wanted it again. I really liked the bread. I liked my chocolate mousse dessert, too. Click on the pictures for a bigger view.
Three out of Five Stars (Various visits)Paul: Overall, the food is really good. They have a pretty new menu. It has a lot of good choices. I like the soup in the bread bowl. They have different soups depending on what day you go. My favorite soup is the Organic Butternut Squash. If they don’t have that when I am there, I like to get Corn Chowder. Only problem is, sometimes, if you go at dinner, they run out of bread bowls. I also really like the Pesto Chicken Panini. They have good bakery and you can choose from a lot of yummy desserts. I normally like to get the chocolate toffee cookie. The cookies are huge. For drinks, they have one of those machines where you can choose pretty much any Coke product. My mom does not let me drink sodas or juices that often...like hardly ever. But, here, if I am lucky, I can get Dasani fizzy flavored water! It is a very convenient location near my school and not too far from my baseball fields. Inside, it needs a better cleaner. It does not have the best service and it is not too clean. (And, like I said before, sometimes they run out of stuff.) It’s a pretty nice restaurant. Sam: I like Atlanta Bread. I like the Tomato Basil Soup without cheese. Sometime they don’t have it, but the days they don’t have it they have the Butternut Squash. And I like the chocolate chip cookie. It is really good! 4.75 out of 5 Stars (June 8th, 2013)Paul: Sliders is an awesome restaurant that is literally right on the beach! I loved the view of the ocean! They have a playground in the sand for kids and their own walkway to the beach. We sat outside on the second floor. They even have an elevator! They have an outside bar with music, which is very cool. Our server was very nice. He even brought a cup of ice for my brother's finger. Sam slammed his finger in the car door when we were going there. Oh, almost forgot to mention....the food is EXCELLENT! My family shared two different appetizers. We had the calamari and the fried pickles, which is their specialty. We loved the calamari because it was very tender and came with very good sauce that was drizzled on top. We did NOT like the fried pickles. The were WAY too salty. For my meal, I ordered the crab cakes with cole slaw and their "famous" pineapple casserole. The crab cakes were GREAT! They had tons of crab meat, and just enough breading - unlike other places where they put way too much breading and barely any crab. And the crab was super-fresh! The pineapple casserole was awesome - almost as good as my nana's. Sliders is one of the best places to eat that is right on the beach. We had a great time. Sam: I liked it because it had the playground. Click on the pictures for a bigger view.
5 out of 5 Stars (June 7th, 2013)Paul: Timoti's is the best seafood shack ever! First up, I got the fried clams and the catch of the day, which was cobia. The cobia was grilled. I liked it because it had a "kick". It was very fresh because they said that fishermen caught it locally. The fried clams were moist on the inside and crispy on the outside. The clams and the cobia came in a basket with curly fries, cole slaw, and hush puppies. The hush puppies were some of the best I have ever had. The seating was mostly outside, which is good for a seafood shack. We ate on a picnic table with fans blowing mist on us. They had this really cool shrimp boat play area with two floors! Sam and I played in it while we waited for our food...and after were done eating! Timoti's has very friendly service. I can definitely see why it was named of the best seafood dives in the whole United States! Sam: I got the fried shrimp basket. Yeah! Yeah! Good shrimp! I did not like the hush puppies, though. The shrimp boat was fun. Ivy Walk in Vinings | 1675 Cumberland Pkwy | Ivy Walk Unit #415 | Smyrna, GA 30080 4 1/2 out of 5 Stars (Multiple Visits)Paul: I like to order the Chicken Sausage Pizza. It has sausage made from chicken. It also has tomato sauce, mushrooms, mozzarella cheese, and fontina cheese. All the flavors burst into your mouth! It is really filling, but light at the same time. I would recommend it, although Little Azio's has a lot of other good choices. My mom likes to order the Hummus Wrap. She says it is a healthier option.
The decor is just alright. Not the worst in the world. Most of the time, it is very clean. You can choose between sitting outside or inside. It can sometimes be cold in the restaurant, but that is a good thing during the summer. The booths are HUGE! I've seen eight people stuffed in one booth before! They have two TVs that are always on sports, which I like. Sam. I usually get the kids' Cheese Pizza. I like it a lot. It is why I get excited when we go there. West Village in Smyrna | 4500 West Village Pl SE #1003 Smyrna, GA 30080 4.75 out of 5 Stars (Multiple Visits)Paul: The food is excellent. But, I want to talk about the restaurant itself because everybody knows what Subway is. This is the BEST Subway restaurant in ALL of Atlanta! The decor is very unusual for a Subway. It has a bar table that you sit at (but with no drinks). It has tall chairs. But, it also has regular tables. Surprisingly, it also has lounge chairs with magazines and there are four of them. It is VERRRY clean. It's like Mr. Clean cleaned the place! I go there a lot of times before my baseball practices or games. So, I know the bathrooms are clean because I have to change into my baseball clothes in them. By the way, the service is not just good, it is GREAT. If you are in the Smyrna area and want to go to a Subway, DEFINITELY go to this one!
Sam: I like to choose where to sit. And now for a special review from our Guest Blogger (and Friend of Paul), Cole Muller: Best sandwich I've ever tasted! I always order bacon in mine. I like how you can pick what you want in your sandwich. The restaurant is small and very clean. There's a fountain in front of the restaurant. It makes it look pretty. And...it's next to the best hamburger place in the world! 4 1/2 out of 5 Stars (June 4th, 2013)
Five out of Five Stars (June 3rd, 2013)Paul: Originally, we chose Pablo’s because “Pablo” means “Paul” in Spanish. But also because when we are at the beach, we want to eat seafood – but we also like Mexican food. So, we thought, “Hmm…maybe they have some seafood, but in a Mexican way.” For my appetizer, I had chips, salsa, and queso dip. The salsa didn't taste that spicy. It wasn't spicy at all, actually. The queso dip was warm, unlike some other places I've been where the queso dip was cold. The chips were surprisingly warm, which is a very nice feature. The chips were thick. Normally, chips are thin. So, whenever you dip them into queso, they break. Not the case here! For my entree, I had the Seafood Chimichanga with beans, rice, guacamole, and sour cream. It had crab, lobster, scallops, shrimp, and cheese in a burrito case thing. The crab was very soft, which I like. And it was also warm. All the seafood was very fresh. I could tell because fresh seafood is tender and juicy. The guy who served us came back on a regular basis to see us and ask us, “How’s the food?” and to give us more chips and salsa. He was very nice. The place was very clean and has a really nice, big bar with a super-lot of drinks, including 1800 Tequila! There was a painting on the wall that was actually one of the pictures that is in our art room at school! It’s called “Flower Girl with Lilies”. The bathrooms were surprisingly clean. In other Mexican restaurant bathrooms, they are normally like dirty and not cared about from the owners. You have to go to Pablo’s if you are ever in Fernandina Beach!! Sam: I had the burrito with beans and rice. It had chicken in it. I liked it a lot. In the bathroom there was a locker door, it was like a small rectangle and it had a window. And the stall had a window. It was cool. 3 3/4 out of 5 Stars (May 24th, 2013)Paul: Mezza Luna just opened about a month ago. It’s on the right track for getting to be a very good restaurant. It is a very small restaurant. The two servers that were there were good. The décor is like an Italian ocean coast. It has a lot of blue color, shells hanging on the walls, and anchors. The big screen TV showed views of Italy. For my appetizer I had bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar and fried calamari with marinara sauce. These were very good. Normally, calamari is really chewy, but here it was not so chewy – but just chewy enough! The calamari was also a good presentation. The Seafood Ravioli (What Paul Ordered) My entrée was Seafood Ravioli with Marinara Sauce. The seafood in the ravioli was good. The ravioli was thin instead of thick. I recommend getting this. For dessert, I had the chocolate mousse. I tell you, it was out-of-this-world awesome! It was very airy like a good mousse. My whole family loved it. Sam: I ordered the cannolis for dessert. “Bleh.” Because they were not sweet. (Although my dad liked them.) Chocolate Mousse was much better. |
